WERB’S Communities

“We want to build an authentic community, which is Christ centred, that plays our part in transforming the city and beyond.”

Werb's Communities are the heartbeat of STW Derby. Church is more than an hour and a half gathering on Sunday. Church is sharing life around a table; “practising the way of Jesus” together, in Derby. Throughout the week, we will live in community where we eat, pray, and share life together. This is where the ugly, beautiful, difficult, and rewarding moments of real life will take place. Werb's Communities are based primarily (not exclusively) on geographical locations (North, South, East, West and “Central” of the city. Online is also available).

In January 2024 we are taking a break from Practicing the Way and digging deeper into the book of Genesis alongside our sermon series.

Practicing the Way

“Practicing the Way is a pathway to becoming like Jesus in community. We need to practice Jesus’ teachings, to get his ideas from our minds into the muscle memory of our bodies. We do this by adopting practices from Jesus’ own life, time- tested disciplines for the spiritual life that open up our entire being to God and allow him to transform us into people of love” - John Mark Comer.

There are 9 Practices in total, one per term. Each Practice consists of 4 weeks of video-based teaching, guided conversation and spiritual exercises. Our next Practice is “Prayer” (April 2023). There are also optional resources to use alongside the teaching content, including a free printable Companion Guide, podcast, and recommended reading. Each week, we will gather with our Werb’s Communities to learn about a practice of Jesus; to practice during the week the spiritual exercises; and to reflect together on our experiences of God.
