TRANSFORMING THE CITY AND BEYOND
VISION STATEMENT
It’s week 3 of our vision statement series! How are doing with learning about it?
Let’s keep learning it and get better and better at remembering it because it is important to us as a church family. You are part of the church so we want you to know and understand the vision and help us work towards it.
Keep using the VISION STATEMENT PUZZLE to learn the vision statement in a fun way!
But let’s say it again now!!!
Last week we looked at what it means to be CHRIST-CENTRED. So this week we are looking at the last part because we want to be an authentic community which is Christ-centred that plays it’s part in…
TRANSFORMING THE CITY AND BEYOND!
We’re wanting for us all to understand why this is our vision and hope you will join in with us and help us to be an authentic community which is christ-centred that transforms the city and beyond!
So what does it mean to transform the city and beyond?
When something or someone TRANSFORMS it means that they change and often in a big way! It means that something or someone are made totally different to the way they were before.
When we talk about people or places transforming we are super excited because it’s all for the better!
But before we get into it…LET’S PLAY A GAME!
Below are 5 pictures. Click through these images and try to guess what they are!
They have changed quite a lot and transformed over the years but this is what they looked like originally! So can you guess what these are?!
Have you guessed yet?? THE ANSWERS ARE BELOW! !
No. 5 is a Television!
No. 4 is a Washing Machine!
No. 3 are a pair of socks!
No. 2 are the first Roller-skates!
No. 1 is actually a calculator!
It’s crazy how these have all changed! These things have all been improved, transformed and made better. Some of these things will keep on changing too so who knows what they’ll look like in the future. We are the same! God wants to keep changing us and make us more like Jesus for the better.
When we are transformed we then want to see others be changed and transformed. We want our city and everyone in it to know Jesus because when he transforms people their lives completely change for good!
Now as we have already mentioned we’re looking this week about what it means for us to play our part in TRANSFORMING THE CITY AND BEYOND.
Now we know that to transform means to change but what does this mean when it comes to our vision statement!?
Well, Jesus actually tells us…watch this video below!
Did you hear what that the most important commandment or rule is?
Then he said EVERYTHING hangs off of these 2 commandments. That’s how important they are - everything we do should lead back to these 2 things. LOVING GOD and LOVING OUR NEIGHBOUR
We want to see Derby be the best city! And the city isn’t just about the buildings it’s about the people! Now you are only 1 person so you can’t do this on your own which is why we want to do it as a community working together to transform the city and beyond. And when we talk about the ‘beyond’ part this is all about our world.
The best way to play YOUR part in transforming the city and beyond is through acts of kindness. We’ve talked before about the impact a simple act of kindness can make!
Puppet Joe this morning gave us a few ideas of what we can do even at this time to show that we love our neighbours. Remember when we say love your neighbour that’s not just the person who lives next to you it is ANYONE and EVERYONE you meet!
So how will you love your neighbour this week?
How will you play your part in transforming the city and beyond!
Phil told us last week that it’s all about the number 3.
We would love for you to pray for 3 friends.
We then want you to talk to 3 of your friends about church.
And then as we talk about before bless 3 (or more!) people with your acts of kindness.
These are the best birthday present St. Werburgh’s could ask for; changing the world around us through prayer and blessing others!
CRAFT TIME!
We are DESPERATE to see what you’ve made. We would love to see your crafts and pictures and show them off at our next services online and in person! Please send a picture of ANYTHING you make from this week and Amy will include it in next week’s video!
Some things to do during the talk:
Activity Sheet - write down the 3 friends you will pray for, talk to about church and bless! (You don’t have to stick to 3 you can always do more!)
Werb’s is 3 years old! Can you write or draw your FAVOURITE memory from church?
Get creative!
WORSHIP
This morning at church we talked about how although we can’t sing together we can still worship together.
Don’t forget the playlists on YouTube that you can listen to to worship to God at home.
This morning we sung a song called ‘Stand In Your Love’
We have looked at this song before during lockdown! It’s an amazing song that reminds us that our fear doesn’t stand a chance when we are surrounded by God’s love.
You might be a little nervous or scared about talking to your friends about church or doing your acts of kindness. Listen to this song and ask God for the courage and strength to help others. Then step out and trust God is with you as you spread kindness.
