Hi Werb’s Kids and Werb’s Parents!

Hope you are all doing well.

We’ve loved having you back at church so if anyone still hasn’t managed to sign up don’t worry you can sign up for a different week now and guarantee your places! HERE is the link to our services page where you can find all the details.

We’ve all had proper weeks back at school now and I really hope you’ve loved going back and enjoying being back with your friends and teachers again.
I have been praying for you all and will continue to as we all learn to navigate and find our way through this new term.

I really hope to see you soon so stay safe and stay connected!

VISION STATEMENT

Hopefully you’ll remember from last week that we have started a new series on our church’s vision!
We talked about how it is what we dream and aim to be as a church.

I challenged you to see how fast you could put together the VISION STATEMENT PUZZLE.
Were you fast? Have you managed to remember the words at all?
I would love for us to learn it off by heart and then impress Phil by being able to say it from memory!

Let’s recap what it says right now!

We want to build an authentic community, which is christ centred, that plays our part in transforming the city and beyond.

Last week we looked at what it means to be an AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY. So this week we are looking at the next part because we want to be an authentic community which is…

CHRIST-CENTRED!

Now what does that mean?

CHRIST is a special name that we call Jesus. Christ means anointed or chosen one. So when we say Jesus Christ we are remembering that God chose Jesus to save us. The word Christ points to just how special Jesus is!

And then when we say that we put something central or in the centre we are talking about how important it is to us. When something is in the middle or the centre it takes the best place but also it impacts everything else in our lives. When Jesus is at the centre he impacts everything else and makes us more like him meaning we will become kinder and more loving. It’s the best way to live with Jesus in the middle, in the most important place.

We are going to take a look at the first disciples. They knew how important Jesus was so when he called them to follow him they dropped everything and went. Being Jesus’ friend to them was better than everything else.

But before we get into it…LET’S PLAY A GAME!

Let’s think about what is important to us. We are going to play a game so that we can find out what is most important to us! I have a bunch of questions and you need to decide which one you would choose. So you pick the answer that what sounds nicest or best to you!

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU? YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE!

  • SLEEPING OR EATING?

  • FRUIT OR CHOCOLATE?

  • SWEETS OR VEGETABLES?

  • PLAYING WITH YOUR TOYS OR WATCHING TV?

  • SMILING OR LAUGHING?

  • SCHOOL OR HOME?

  • TALKING OR LISTENING?

  • BEING KIND OR BEING LOVING?

What do your answers say about you? Just because you picked one over the other doesn’t mean its’s not important to you it just means its a little more important than the other answer.
Jesus’ disciples probably thought that their jobs, family and friends were super important BUT they knew that Jesus was MORE important than all of them put together!

As we mentioned we’re looking at what it means to be Christ-centred and why we should put Jesus at the centre or in the middle of everything we do in our lives.

This is exactly what Jesus’ disciples, his first friends did. They knew that Jesus was God’s special son who had come to save them and so they wanted to spend as much time as they possibly could with him so that they could be more like him each and every day.

This morning Amy did a little rap to introduce us to all the disciples which you can watch again on YouTube to learn who the disciples were and all their names!

But the very first people Jesus called were fishermen. They were Simon (also known as Peter), his brother Andrew and two other brothers called James and John. They were in their boats when Jesus walked past and told them to drop what they were doing and follow him. This might seem like a very strange things to do but as we’ve already said they knew how amazing it would be to be a friend of Jesus. They knew that they could learn LOADS from him and wanted to be like him.

The video below will help us look more at the story!

The disciples had no idea what would happen when they said yes to Jesus, and we don't either! But being a follower of Jesus is a life-long journey, and it's good to learn from others who are following Jesus too.
Are you a friend of Jesus? Is he the most important person to you?

You can be fishers of people too by inviting your friends to church to sending them the links so they can watch online. It’s one of the most amazing things to be able to tell someone about Jesus.

CRAFT TIME!

I loved all the pictures that were sent in last week so keep them coming!
We are DESPERATE to see what you’ve made. We would love to see your crafts and pictures and show them off at our next services online and in person! Please send a picture of ANYTHING you make from this week and Amy will include it in next week’s video! (send it via instagram or WhatsApp or by email amy.farrar@stwderby.org)

  1. Some things to do during the talk:

    • Activity Sheet

    • Fishers Of Men Colouring Sheet

    • Am wrote a rap to help us remember the fishermen!
If you want to learn it HERE are the lyrics. But why not write your own rap about your favourite story from the bible!?

    • Jesus’ disciples were like his Dream Team! Choose your own ‘Dream Team’.
This can be one of two things: a sports team (e.g. football, rugby, netball, Olympic etc) or a ‘team’ of celebrity best friends (which celebs would you choose to be your closest friends). Draw them and explain why you have chosen them. Then remember Jesus chose ordinary people in his dream team. He knew he could change them into amazing world changer and he’ll change you too if you let him!

2. Get creative!

  • FISHING GAME

All you will need to make your own fishing game is to use pipe-cleaners and paper!
First draw your fish on the paper and cut them out. Don’t forget to colour them in so they look like the type of fish you would see in the ocean! Next you need a strip of paper. You add a little glue to both ends of the strip of paper and attach both to one side of the fish creating a little loop which you’ll need later to catch your fish!
Next take your pipe-cleaner and shape it into a hook so you are able to pick up your fish.
You’re ready to go fishing! How many fish can you collect?

  • Hangable Fish!
In the service we made these and then put the bible verse for today on it!
You will need some coloured paper, scissors and some string.
Draw big fish on one of the. pieces of paper and cut it out. Draw round it on the other pieces of coloured paper so they are all the same size. Next cut your fish into about 6-8 small pieces like seen in the picture. You’ll need a head and a tail on each. Choose which colour will be the head and the pick which colour pieces will make up the body and last of all which are for the tail.
Tape these to a piece of string and include a loop on the top so you can hang it up!

  • Make your own net!
HERE is a cool way to make some netting that you could catch your fish in. Or you could stick it together to make a handheld net with a handle!

THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE AIMING FOR WITH THE THE HANGABLE FISH CRAFT!

WORSHIP

This morning at church we talked about how although we can’t sing together we can still worship together.
Don’t forget the playlists on YouTube that you can listen to to worship to God at home.

This morning we sung a song called ‘Build My Life’

We reminded ourselves that we need to build our lives on God, keeping Jesus at the centre.

The words to the bridge are like a prayer that we can pray. We can ask God to help us build our lives on his love for he is our rock and firm foundation, keeping him in the middle of everything. We can put our trust in God as he can be trusted to help us through everything.

With Jesus in the centre we can become more like him. He will help us to love other like how he loves us.
