Stormy Times
Hi Werb’s Kids and Werb’s Parents!
How are you doing this week?
We are back into lockdown although it looks a little different this time round.
If you need anything then please don’t hesitate to get in contact (amy.farrar@stwderby.org). We need to look out for each other at this moment in time so do be checking on your friends and family and again if you need anything please do contact me!
As I said this morning today is actually Remembrance Sunday.
As you spend time remembering all the wars and those who made sacrifices to make sure we could be free and have good safe lives do also remember those who more recently have had to make sacrifices everyday for us. Those who have been keeping us safe like our NHS staff and front line key workers.
Hope you were able to join us this morning for church! The service is now on YouTube if you want to catch up.
HERE is the link for the STWDerby YouTube channel where we upload all our videos if you ever miss any weeks you can always watch again here!
I really hope to see you soon so stay safe and stay connected!

STORMY TIMES
We’re looking still continuing our series on learning from Jesus and how to follow him.
As you’ll have already seen we’re looking at a special story so let’s see what happens Jesus and followers face a storm.
We all face challenges and storms in our lives and right now things do feel hard don’t they. So let’s take a look at this story to see how they faced things.
Did you manage to see the video with the fisherman this morning??
Really hope you had fun pully some great funny faces!
If you didn’t manage to join us then it is on YouTube so you can watch it again.
Here is another version for you to watch should you need to just refresh your memory of the story.
We know Jesus is amazing don’t we. We’ve heard great stories but just like the disciples and followers of Jesus in the boat with him sometimes we forget how great he is.
The disciples started to panic when they saw the storm. Most of them were fishermen and so they would have been used to being on the sea so this must have been a really bad storm for them to get so worried.
Have you ever seen a bad storm? What’s the worst weather you’ve ever seen?
What is the worst storm they have ever been caught in? Any scary storm experiences? Has anyone ever been caught in a storm at sea?
Check out this video below of what a real storm at sea looks like.
If you were on that boat, what would be going through your mind?
How would you be feeling? How do you think you would act?
Who or what would you want to come to your rescue?
Hopefully this video helps you think about how Jesus’ disciples would have been feeling during the storm.
They saw everything around them crashing and they got super scared and they thought Jesus didn’t care cause he was sleeping. The amazing thing is that Jesus was in control the whole time. He was never going to let them get hurt by the storm but they just needed to trust him.
Now Jesus’ friends had every right to scared because storms can be scary! We see it in the video above that storms can be really scary and it is okay to feel scared sometimes. But we need to remember to never let that fear take over.
If I was in a boat in a crazy storm I’d be very VERY scared too! So we totally understand how they must have been feeling. But we need to remember that
JESUS IS IN THE BOAT!
Last time we looked at this story we looked at a few facts that I’d love for us to recap again. You can remind yourself of these things whenever something scary or worrying happens:
- Storms can be scary
- It’s okay to be scared sometimes
- Jesus is always with us
- Jesus loves and cares for us
- Jesus gives us his peace and strength when we face storms so that we don’t need to be afraid
CRAFT TIME!
As mentioned before are DESPERATE to see what you’ve made. We would love to see your crafts and pictures and show them off at our next services online and in person! Please send a picture of ANYTHING you make from this week and Amy will include it in next week’s video!
Some things to do during the talk:
Make a paper boat! If you’re unsure how then HERE is a video to help you.
Draw the faces of the disciples and how you think they were thinking at different points in the story.
Draw your own poppy picture for remembrance Sunday.
Get creative!
Make a wind sock!
YOU WILL NEED: Toilet tube or a piece of card/paper, tape, some pens, strips of coloured paper or ribbons and string.
First of all you’ll need your toilet tube and decorate it.
If you don’t have a toilet roll then don’t worry you can roll up some paper into a tube instead and decorate that!
Then once you have your decorated tube you need to add on the ribbons and paper at the bottom. These are the parts that will blow in the wind! Make sure they are stuck on securely with tape!
You might want to also add a handle to the other end but then you are finished!!
HERE is a great video should you want to follow someone on how to make it.Make a rain stick!
YOU WILL NEED: Toilet tubes, tape, aluminium foil, rice and some pens
First stick your toilet tubes together. Next tape over 1 end so your rice doesn’t fall out!
Now scrunch up the foil and put in inside the tube. This will slow down the rice so it sounds more like rain. Next put in some rice. You won’t need loads but enough to make a good sound.
Last of all cover up the other end and decorate your tube!!HERE is video you can watch to help you make it.
WORSHIP
This morning we mentioned how last weekend at our light party we prayed about the things that scared us whilst we listened to the song “Stand In Your Love”.
As part of our time of prayer we used the lyrics of this song to keep reminding us that our fear can’t stand a chance when we stand in God’s love.
Below is the prayer that we used this morning which you may wish to use again now.
Father God we ask you for your peace.
We remember that our fear doesn’t stand a chance when we stand in your love.
We tell you now the things that worry and scare us and
We remember that our fear doesn’t stand a chance when we stand in your love.
Help us this week we pray. Keep us safe as
We remember that our fear doesn’t stand a chance when we stand in your love.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
