• The Church of England electoral roll is a list of people who are eligible to vote in elections for the Parochial Church Council. In a parish church this council would oversee the operations of the church and ensure that it is functioning within Church of England guidelines.

At Werb's we are not a parish church and so we have a Werb's Church Council (WCC) who, in addition to ensuring Church of England compliance, are also the trustees of the St Werburgh's Derby charity. We have a membership roll which functions in the same way as an electoral roll for the WCC.

  • Under Church Representation Rules, any lay (non-clergy) persons are entitled to have their names entered on the Roll if they:

    a) are Baptised, (this can have been as a baby or as an adult in any church)
    b) are aged 16 or over, and
    c) have made one of the following three declarations and duly applied for enrolment:

The first declaration is that the person is a member of the Church of England or of a Church in communion with it and is resident in the parish **

    or

The second declaration is that the person is a member of the Church of England or of a Church in communion with it, is not resident in the parish, but has habitually attended public worship in the parish during the preceeding six months.

    or

The third declaration is that the person is a member in good standing of the Church which is not in communion with the Church of England but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and is also a member of the Church of England and has habitually attended public worship in the parish during the preceeding six months.

(Most of our members, if over the age of 16 and baptised, will fall into either of the first two categories.)

If you are eligible to be on our membership roll according to the criteria then please register.

  • If you are not eligible then this does not make you any less a member of our church. We love and value everyone but as a member of the Church of England we have to follow this procedure every year. If you aren't eligible because you have not been baptised then we would love to chat to you about this.

  • You can do this by completing the electronic form below by 12th April. If you would like a paper copy of the form or are unsure if you are eligible, please let us know.

  • Being a member will enable you to nominate, and vote for, the Werb’s Church Council (WCC) at the church's annual meeting on Monday 27th April - 7.00 pm. The council will provide leadership and governance for us as a church and, as a charity, they are our trustees. This year we are looking for some new members to join or WCC. If this is something you would be interested in doing then please contact Phil Mann(phil.mann@stwderby.org) to arrange a meeting.

The number of people on our membership roll also has an impact on the representation we get as a church at a deanery and diocesan level.

  • If you signed up to the membership roll last year you DO NOT need to register again.

  • The Werb’s Church Council is made up of elected members who are voted for at the AGM. If you are eligible for the Membership Roll and are interested in putting your name forward then please contact Phil Mann (phil.mann@stwderby.org) to find out more about the role.

  • On Monday 27th April, 7.00pm, we will be taking the opportunity to look back over the last 8 years, and to tell the story of all that God has done in our church since it reopened in 2017.

We will also be sharing about our vision, reflecting on the steps we have taken to build an authentic community that is Christ Centred and plays its part in transforming the city and beyond. It is also a chance for us to look ahead to the future and tell you some of the plans we have in place.

The meeting will be in-person, and live-streamed so our entire community can participate.
