Virtual Easter Party!
IT’S ALMOST EASTER, LET’S CELEBRATE!!
On the 4th April we had planned to meet at church to have an amazing Easter Party.
However Coronavirus has prevented us from meeting together.
We need to stay safe and stay home BUT this doesn’t mean we can’t still stay connected and have lots of fun! We’ve decided to take our party online instead so
on the 4th April at 11am @werbskids will hold an instagram live!
You can join and watch us having fun as well as join in with everything we have planned.
Below are the activities and games we will be sharing so that you can join in the fun and have a party of your own at home!
“CHALLENGE: Can you do 10,000 steps or more in one day?
Or maybe run a mini marathon round your garden?
Take a photo if you manage it and tag us on social media @werbskids or use #werbsathome #werbseasterchallenge.”
Easter Hats
You will need: A hat, crafty supplies to decorate it with, tape or blue tac.
I’m not sure where it is from but there is a tradition at Easter to make an Easter Bonnet which is basically an Easter hat. Apparently people would wear new clothes and hats to celebrate the coming of spring and meaning of Easter, new life and new beginnings!
So we are going to make our own Easter hats! You will need a hat of your own and we are going to decorate it NOT destroy it! Put away your scissors! The challenge here is to make your hat as Eastery as possible without ruining it. You need to be able to return your hat to normal once Easter is over.
I added to my hat some flowers as they symbolises new life. I drew a cross and put that in my hat to remind me that Jesus died for me. As well as drawing some eggs and some chicks to sit in my woolly hat too!! Get creative!
Don’t forget to post a picture of your hat as I’d love to see it! #easterhatchallenge #werbsathome
Peg Eggs
You will need: A peg, some card or paper, glue and some pens
First of all draw a little egg on some card, decorate the egg by colouring it in.
Next you need to draw a zigzag across the middle and when you cut out the egg ALSO cut across this zigzag line.
This should look like your egg is cracked in half!
Get your peg and lay it on it’s side. Stick one half of the egg on the top and the other on the bottom. When you squeeze the peg the egg should open and close.
Now you need a little chick to poke out the middle! Draw a little chick and stick it on the back side of the peg (opposite to the egg). You need to put the glue on the front at the bottom of your chick so that you can see him through the egg. You may need to check by opening your peg that the chick can be seen.
EASTER GARDEN
You will need to go outside!
If you google Easter Gardens you will see that these beautiful creations have a few elements that are all the same.
You need to make sure your garden has 3 crosses to symbolise Jesus’ death and then an empty tomb to symbolise that he’s risen from the dead!
These are the only rules that you need to stick by!
Look around your garden to see what things you could use to create your Easter Garden. Get creative!
HOWEVER there is one golden rule.
Check what you cannot use.
There may be special flowers or plants in your garden.
You are not allowed to dig anything up unless your parents say you can!
As you can see from the picture I used rocks, dead leaves, sticks and moss that was lying on the ground.
I’ve seen images of people use tins or jars to make Jesus’ tomb more cave-like but this is totally up to you and how you want your garden to look. Remember don’t use anything you aren’t allowed to.
You will also need some string or twine to tie together 2 sticks to make the crosses. This part is a little bit fiddly so get a grown up to help!
Hand Print Chicks
You will need: paint, something to wash your hands with, paper or card and some pens
Get a plain piece of paper and card and place it in front of you
Next paint one of you hands yellow. You may need a grown up to help you with this.
Next make a hand print in the centre of the page. This is going to be your big chicken. Then use a finger to make 3 smaller prints to the left at the bottom of your page (refer to picture below).
You will now need to wait for your paint to dry before you continue.
Next draw on some eyes and some beaks to your chicken and her chicks! You may also wish to draw on some feet!
Your painting should look something like this when it’s finished!
