Thursday 18th April

Luke 23:34 Father, forgive these people, because they don’t know what they are doing.

John 19:30 It is finished!

Jesus endured the brutality of the cross, he died a criminals death for each one of us, while we were still sinners. And some of his final words involved asking God to forgive those who were treating him so cruelly.

Jesus’ death on the cross changes everything - we are forgiven, we are set free, we are accepted, we are loved, death and sin no longer have a hold on us.

Jesus’ final words expressed this as he declared the victory that he won on the cross, that death is defeated, that ‘it is finished.’ We are no longer slaves to sin, instead we are able to live a life of obedience to God which leads to righteousness, holiness and eternal life.

This is the victory that Jesus won for us on the cross. Today let’s give thanks to Jesus for all that he has done for us, even when we didn’t recognise it or understand it.

Spend some time contemplating all that the cross means to you and give thanks for the victory Jesus won for us and for all that he endured for us.
