Matthew 1:21-23 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel.
Immanuel means God with us. Jesus came to earth in order to be with us.
Throughout the Bible this is a promise of God that is repeated again and again. God will be with you, he will not leave you or forsake you. When our children were younger and scared about going to sleep (or just trying to put it off!) they would always want us to stay with them. Whatever was scaring them or worrying them didn’t change with out presence but there was something that reassured them or calmed them just because we were sat there with them that helped them to get to sleep.
The same is true with us - God doesn’t always promise to change our circumstances or situation or take all our troubles away but he does promise to always be with us and his presence is always what we need to reassure us, to calm our fears, to know that we are loved and that we have a purpose.
