Tuesday 16th April

John 15:12-13 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Jesus set the standard high for us. We are told to love each other as Jesus loved us, to lay our lives down for one another. This is what he did for us and why we celebrate every year at Easter.

But what does this mean for us each day? Love is often a choice rather than a feeling.

We may not want to love those around us today or feel like loving those who are difficult, hard to get on with or take up our time. As we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection let’s remember how he loved his friends and enemies, the example he set and  the command he left us with.

Today let’s choose to love even when we don’t want to - to say or do something kind when we don’t feel like being kind, to give time and effort when we don’t think we have the time or energy. Let’s lay down our lives, give generously of ourselves this day as we follow Jesus’ example.
