Day 3 - Wednesday 13th March
I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way.
David wrote this Psalm when he was hiding from his enemies and alone in a cave. In the midst of great distress and despair he pours out his heart, his compaints, his troubles to God.
We have this Psalm so we are able to follow his example. We can pour out our hearts to God - the good and the bad and the ugly - he knows it all already.
“The outpouring of complaint is not meant to tell Jehovah what He does not know. It is for the complainer’s relief, not for God’s information.” (Maclaren) And as David can testify God is with us always and that is all that matters, even when it seems the rest of the world has turned it’s back and doesn’t care (v.4&5)
